The CFRC is an independent research organization created at the School of Social Work by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

The Children's Bureau, the oldest Federal agency for children and families, is located within the Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families. The Bureau is responsible for assisting States in the delivery of child welfare services designed to protect children and to strengthen families. The Bureau provides grants to States, Tribes, and communities to operate a range of child welfare services including child protective services, family preservation and support, foster care, adoption, and independent living.

General Scope: The IFDU seeks to enhance the well being of children, youth, and families through research, education, training, and consultation. As an arm of the Graduate School of Social Work, the IF serves as a resource for building professionalism and discovering effective practices and policies for child and family programs.
Training Specific: The Institute provides the following professional development and training services:
- The Child Welfare Stipend Program provides special coursework and field placement opportunities and Title IV-E stipends for MSW students interested in public child welfare. For more information, see http://www.ifduonline.org/.
- Curriculum Development and Training is geared for professionals working with children and families. For more information, see http://www.ifduonline.org/.
- The Institute's Training Program delivers a wide range of competency based training for child welfare workers, foster parents, supervisors and managers; department of corrections and juvenile probation personnel; and health and mental health department staff in more than 20 content areas. International Adoption Center at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children

General Scope: The International Adoption Center provides comprehensive medical examinations, developmental screenings, and psychosocial interdisciplinary evaluations for internationally adopted children. The Center's goal is to assist each family in allowing their child to develop to his or her maximum potential.
Training Specific: The Center also provides training, four times a year, for pre-adoptive parents. Please contact the Center for more informaton and a schedule of trainings.

National Resource Center for Child Welfare Data and Technology (NRCCWDT)

General Scope:The National Resource Center for Child Welfare Data and Technology (NRC-CWDT) provides assistance to States to develop, implement, and improve effective case management and data collection systems and to use data to enable State child welfare agencies, courts and tribes to manage child welfare programs in order to improve outcomes for children and families.
The NRC-CWDT provides technical assistance in the use of data to meet the reporting requirements of the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) and to meet the goals of the Adoption and Safe Families Act, the Child and Family Services Reviews, and other Federal, State, and local legislative requirements, policies and initiatives.
The Center, through its website and other means, also provides for the dissemination of best practices around automation issues such as the development and implementation of Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information Systems (SACWIS). NRC-CWDT, as a service of the Children's Bureau, helps States, Tribes and courts to assure the quality of data collected, provide staff at all levels with appropriate information, and build the capacity to use the information for decision-making in daily practice.
Training Specific: The Center provides training on data use and data management at all levels. This includes the development of customized training curricula and materials, the delivery of training to key staff, and training of trainers to promote system-wide improvements in understanding and using data in policy and practice.

The Research and Training Center for Children's Mental Health was created to address the need to improve services and outcomes for children with serious emotional/behavioral disabilities and their families.
The Center conducts research and synthesizes and shares knowledge; provides training and consultation; and serves as a resource for other researchers, policymakers, organizations, professional socieities, advocates, consumers, and practioners.
The Center is jointly funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, U.S. Department of Education, and the Center for Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
